China's efforts to boost its lacklustre economy will be under scrutiny as annual political meetings, called the "Two Sessions", kick off in the capital Beijing, says Chong Ja Ian, associate professor of political science at the National University of Singapore. People will be watching not only what happens during the meetings, but also "how those policies that have been articulated at 'lianghui' get implemented on the ground, whether they meet the lofty expectations that will be set out in the talks," Chong tells AFP.
