President Alexander Van der Bellen swears in Austria’s new three-party governing coalition, with conservative People's Party (OeVP) leader Christian Stocker as chancellor. The creation of the new government marks the end of Austria’s longest stretch without a government in modern history, after the far right Freedom Party (FPOe) won elections in September but subsequently failed to form a government. “The global political situation is unstable to a degree that compels us all to act,” says Van der Bellen at the ceremony, reflecting on global discussions in previous days over Ukraine.
