Floating high above the London skyline aboard her most famous creation, architect Julia Barfield is still giddy that the London Eye ferris wheel has become a symbol of the city. "It was as part of the millennium, so it was very much a kind of symbol of time turning and I don't know that it would have happened at any other time really", she says inside one of the Eye's famous pods. 25 years after opening to the public on March 9 2000, it has established itself as one of the British capital's most recognisable landmarks.
