Description
Amid Myanmar's ongoing civil war, two women fighters from anti-junta armed group the Urban Revolutionary Front (URF) share their personal journeys of resistance since the 2021 coup. The URF is a resistance group based in Karenni state and founded in July 2021 following the military coup.
Sagawah Aung used to work in the media industry and had planned to pursue a master's degree in Australia, but after witnessing women being killed during the anti-junta protests, she decided to join the force. Student Monica is determined to fight on the frontline as one of very few women soldiers.
Junta forces have committed widespread rape and other forms of sexual violence, while members of resistance forces have also committed abuses against girls, women and LGBT people, a UN report said last year.
