Description
Colombian women dress up as corpses bearing grievous injuries as part of an art piece to protest high rates of femicide in the country on International Women's Day. The artwork was made in the style of the "cuadros vivos" (living pictures) of Galeras, a tradition where people recreate motionless artistic scenes for hours, which has been declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
The piece "is a denunciation of femicide," says Xiomara Suescun, director of the National Center for the Arts, where it was exhibited. Colombia's Ombudsman's Office, a government agency, reported 745 cases of femicide in the country in 2024. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
