"At first, the figure seems quite staggering, but then, for several years now, these kinds of threats have loomed over Champagne. I remain fairly calm, meaning that as long as nothing is actually put into effect," says the president of the Taittinger Champagne House after US President Donald Trump threatened France and the European Union with 200% tariffs on wine and spirits. The United States is the largest export market for the champagne industry, ahead of the United Kingdom, with nearly 30 million bottles shipped in 2023, amounting to 810 million euros.
