Description
Images of Semuc Champey National Park in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala ; the caves at Lanquin Caves National Park in Lanquin and Ranchitos del Quetzal private nature reserve in Purulha.
The Natural monument of Semuc Champey, which in the local Q'eqchi Maya dialect means "where the river disappears into the earth", consists of a natural 300 meters long limestone bridge, under which the Cahabon River passes. Atop the bridge there are a series of stepped pools, ranging from turquoise to emerald-green, good for swimming. Lanquin Caves is a large limestone cave system located 1 kilometer west of Lanquin in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. The Lanquin cave system was declared a national park in 1955. Ranchitos del Quetzal is a natural sanctuary spread over 42 hectares of cloud forest dedicated to the conservation of the habitat of the resplendent quetzal, national bird of Guatemala.
