Seven inspectors from the Bordeaux education authority arrive in the early afternoon in Lestelle-Bétharram, in France's Pyrénées-Atlantiques region, to carry out a four-day inspection of the Notre-Dame-de-Bétharram establishment, the focal point of a wave of allegations of past sexual assaults and violence. The allegatuions of repeated abuse have cast a shadow over Prime Minister Francois Bayrou, who has been accused of knowing about some of the accusations as early as the 1990s as education minister and as a local official but not acting on them.
