Description
File footage from 2016 of protesters camping near Native American lands and clashing with construction company workers in North Dakota to protest the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline as a jury orders Greenpeace to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in damages in a case brought by the US pipeline operator, which accused the advocacy group of orchestrating a campaign of violence and defamation. Operational since 2017, the controversial construction of the oil pipeline provoked one of the largest anti-fossil fuel protests in US history against the project's construction. Hundreds were arrested and injured. Led by the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, protesters argued the project would destroy ancient Native sites and contaminate local drinking water. STOCKSHOTS
