Description
The Ohio State Highway Patrol released helicopter video showing the damage caused by strong storms and possible tornadoes throughout Clark and Madison counies on Wednesday.
The storms prompted the National Weather Service to issue tornado warnings and watches in the region. They have all since expired.
Crews with the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Licking County in Jersey, but could not provide details on wind speeds or the strength of the tornado.
NWS crews will survey damage in Fairfield and Franklin counties as well.
Several central Ohio school districts were on a delayed start Wednesday due to the severe weather moving through the area. Pickerington Schools announced that some of its schools are closed or dismissed early because of a loss of electricity.
Tornado warnings were issued for Franklin, Fairfield, Licking, Madison and Pickaway counties in the early morning hours. Some residents woke up to damage to their homes and other properties in their neighborhoods.
A home on Westwind Road and Whirlwind Drive near Hilliard Rome Road sustained heavy damage from the storms. Debris is scattered on the left side of one of the houses and pieces of the house fell on the house.
In Canal Winchester, a tree fell over on a home — heavily damaging the roof and part of the home's structure.
In Madison County, houses were heavily damaged and trucks were flipped over likely due to the strong winds.
