Iceland's Fagradalsfjall volcano spewed more lava on Wednesday as engineers worked to divert the flow away from a power plant. The Icelandic Meteorological Office estimates that hundreds of cubic meters of lava per second escaped the volcano in the first two hours of the eruption on December 18, close to the town of Grindavik. Pall Halldor Halldorsson, from the search and rescue team, said the eruption had reduced from 400 cubic meters per second on Monday to only 10 on Wednesday. "So it’s getting really low and actually we don’t know what’s happening. Is it over? Will it be over tomorrow or after one week or can we expect a bigger eruption again in the same fissure or somewhere else?" he said. A protection barrier was erected to divert lava away from power plants.
