Description
President Joe Biden reiterated Wednesday that the U.S. commitment to Israel's security is "unshakable," underscoring once again that "the United States has Israel's back" as it retaliates against Hamas for the weekend attack.
Biden made the comments a day after he confirmed that U.S. citizens are among the hostages captured by Hamas, as he condemned the militant group for the “sheer evil” of its shocking weekend assault on Israel.
The war, which has claimed more than 2,200 lives on both sides, is expected to escalate.
"At this moment, we have to be crystal clear. There is no justification for terrorism, no excuse. And the type of terrorism exhibited here is just beyond the pale, beyond the pale," Biden said from the White House Rose Garden as he announced new actions on so-called junk fees.
Biden said he, Vice President Kamala Harris and his security team spoke by phone again Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the unfolding situation.
The White House on Monday confirmed that it has already begun delivering critically needed munitions and military equipment to Israel, and the Pentagon was reviewing its inventories to see what else can be sent quickly to boost its ally in the war against Hamas.
Biden is also sending Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Israel to show U.S. support after the attacks. He's expected to arrive on Thursday.
