Description
The Highlands of Scotland are a notoriously wild and woolly place, but no-one knows that more than Fiona the sheep who was trapped there for two years.
Fiona’s been transferred to a ‘park farm’ in Dumfries more than 200 miles away from the wild coast where she had been forced to live in a cave.
Her perilous rescue by five brave farmers has turned her into an international celebrity.
After being trapped at the bottom of a steep Highland cliff near Cromarty Firth, Fiona is now getting to know her new neighbors at the farm, and they’ve been particularly interested in her.
It’s believed she fell down the cliff, but survived and over two years she was spotted every now and again.
Despite her predicament, various rescue organizations believed it would be too dangerous to try to rescue her.
That is before a group of farmers decided it was time for the sheep to be back with a flock.
During a daring climb down they hauled the now massive ewe to the top.
Farmer Cameron Wilson says they were relieved to climb to safety.
“Well, being terrified of heights and of dying I was very, very relieved I must admit, but even more relieved that we got her up there without her having any issues. Stress can be a real concern for an animal like Fiona, but she just kept relaxed all the way.”
Shorn of her massive coat Fiona has just enough wool to keep her warm through the winter.
The huge fleece is a monumental reminder of her adventure.
