Description
Members of the House Progressive Caucus held a press conference on Thursday vowing to fire Elon Musk.
Chairman Rep. Greg Casar, (D) Texas, says that Musk is unelected and unaccountable.
“An unelected, unaccountable billionaire now has seemingly unlimited powers over American's private data and over American's taxpayer dollars,” Casar said.
Rep. Maxine Dexter, (D) Oregon, listed off the changes Musk has initiated since Trump took office.
“In the last week alone, Elon Musk has seized control of the U.S. Department of Treasury's payment system, exposing American's most personal financial information, has shuttered the U.S. Agency for International Aid—USAID--putting the lives of millions of people at risk across the world and threatened the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, undermining our work to combat the climate crisis,” Dexter said.
Rep. Nydia Velazquez, (D) New York, put pressure on Speaker Mike Johnson for not intervening.
“You see, what really frustrates me, that the Speaker of the House doesn't have the courage to stand up and defend the integrity of the legislative branch. Well, I am not going to go silently without fighting, and to say and to remind that this is not only unethical is illegal and it is unconstitutional,” Velazquez said.
And Rep. Chuy Garcia, (D) Illinois, received applause from the other caucus members as called Musk anti-worker and anti-labor.
