Description
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is out on the road recruiting, but he took some time to call into "Morning Juice" on 97.1 The Fan on Friday.
Day started the call by saying it's been nonstop since the Buckeyes won the national championship.
"It's the last kind of day or two recruiting here in Ohio and thought I'd call in," Day said to the show hosts, Brandon Beam and Bobby Carpenter.
Day said he's had a few moments to take a deep breath and enjoy the championship with his family, but he's also been busy on the road, making appearances on various talk shows.
Carpenter asked Day about the timeline to replace defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
"We want to be thorough and make sure we're doing what's right moving forward. We want to have as much continuity as we can," Day said. "We feel great about the guys we have on staff but we also want to make sure, you know, we're looking at other options out there and being thorough in our search."
Heading into the College Football Playoffs, there were doubts about the Buckeyes, who suffered a loss to an unranked Michigan team.
But it didn't take too long to realize Ohio State wasn't going to make the same mistakes and they came out swinging against Tennessee in the first round. For Day, he felt something was different before taking the field.
"That was the most wild atmosphere I felt in the 'Shoe," Day said. "Just the way we came out of the tunnel, I just had this feeling something special was about to happen."
But it wasn't until the semifinal game that Day knew the national championship trophy was going to come back to Columbus.
"When that ball bounced up into Jack's hands the way it did in that moment, I knew we were going to win a national championship," Day said.
