While this may have come as a surprise to guests, Eisenhower was aware of the wrangling he was set to receive.
In 1977, at the inauguration of President Jimmy Carter, a giant peanut floated down Pennsylvania Avenue, a sight that no doubt stood out in Washington.
But Carter comes from a family of peanut farmers, and the personal touch left an imprint.
In the first inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2009, the president appeared to have jumbled his oath of office.
But Chief Justice John Roberts played his part in the mishap by flubbing the oath.
And in 2021, at the inauguration of President Joe Biden, Senator Bernie Sanders was seen wearing a pair of warm and colorful mittens, which were crafted from recycled sweaters.
The Independent Senator from Vermont and his mittens because something of a viral sensation on the internet that inauguration day.
