Description
The nearly complete fossilized remains of a 161-million-year-old stegosaurus discovered in Colorado was unveiled to the public Thursday at the American Museum of Natural History.
This is the same set of fossilized remains that were auctioned for nearly $45 million over the summer. The buyer, Kenneth C. Griffin, loaned it to the American Museum of Natural History for display, research, and educational programming.
The dinosaur, nicknamed Apex, stands 11 feet (3.3 meters) tall and measures 27 feet (8.2 meters) nose to tail
The stegosaurus, with its distinctive pointy dorsal plates, is one of the world’s most recognizable dinosaurs.
