Description
Microsoft will build a $420 million data center in New Albany over the next few years.
The 245,000-square-foot data center will be built on nearly 200 acres on Beech Road.
New Albany City Council unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday night giving the tech giant a 100% property tax abatement for 15 years.
Microsoft estimates that the data center will employ a minimum of 30 full-time employees with an annual payroll of $1.5 million.
Construction is expected to begin next July and it will be completed around December 2027.
More data centers could be built at the site on Beech Road in the future.
Meta and Google also have data centers built in New Albany. Mayor Sloan Spalding called them key assets to the city.
"This investment not only reinforces New Albany’s reputation as a hub for innovation and technology but also represents a significant step forward in our continued efforts to attract world-class companies to our community. We are excited to welcome Microsoft and look forward to the positive impact this project will bring to the region," Spalding said in a statement.
