Description
Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance says the endorsement of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who suspended his own presidential bid last week and announced Tuesday he would join Donald Trump's transition team, reveals "an amazing realignment in American politics.
Speaking to reporters during a campaign stop in the crucial swing state of Michigan, Vance said, "what Robert Kennedy's endorsement really means is the Kennedy Democrat Party, which my grandparents belonged to, is no longer with us, right? Kamala Harris killed it...And I think it's not surprising that a guy like RFK doesn't feel welcome to that party."
The comments follow the announcement that RFK Jr. and former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard have joined Trump’s presidential transition team.
Kennedy last year ran as a Democrat challenging Biden for the nomination. He then switched to become an independent candidate before last week suspending his bid and endorsing Trump.
Asked what role he thinks Kennedy could have in a potential Trump White House, Vance refused to answer, saying only, "we'll cross that bridge once we come to it."
Vance said, however, that there are a lot of "basic health questions that Robert F Kennedy is going to have an interesting perspective on....about why Americans seem in such poor health, especially poor mental health, and especially our young girls."
