Description
Residents of Butler, Pennsylvania, are grappling with now being known as the place where former President and current Republican presidental candidate Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt.
The town of about 13,000 north of Pittsburgh is rural in a staunchly Republican county and some residents expressed shock at how something like this could in happen in a town full of Trump supporters.
For Victoria Rhodes, a nurse who recently moved to Butler, the assassination attempt and reaction to it will shape people’s opinions about former President Trump as he campaigns to return to the White House.
Patrick Casey, a local attorney, said Saturday’s attempted assassination shows that there are no safe places in America anymore. Another resident, Cindy Michael, hopes that people will calm down in the days following the shooting.
"There’s just too much violence,” Michael said.
