Description
Donald Trump appeared to be the target of an assassination attempt as he spoke during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
That's according to two law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The former president, his ear covered in blood from what he said was a gunshot, was quickly pulled away by Secret Service agents and his campaign said he was “fine.”
A local prosecutor said the suspected gunman and at least one attendee are dead.
The Secret Service said two spectators were critically injured.
Posting on his Truth Social media site about two and a half hours after the shooting, Trump said a bullet “pierced the upper part of my right ear.”
Attendees to the rally spoke to the Associated Press and recounted their experience.
"It sounded like there were fireworks and everybody kind of hesitated, like, what's happening? Before Trump swatted his ear. You could see he actually had that (blood there). And then he dropped and that's when everybody's initial reaction to drop to the ground. And it was just like people were just dropping on top of each other," said 15-year-old Lydia Hantz, of Natrona Heights.
"The noise at first just kind of caught everybody off guard. Like, did we just hear what we think we heard?" said her mother Sonya Hantz.
