July 25, 1967 The Del Mar Turf Club began its 28th summer season today "where the turf meets the surf at Old Del Mar." As usual, there was the parade of horses...a lot of the old racing fans there with all their tools for picking winners...and some of the familiar faces that appear at trackside year after year. Bob Crosby and daughter Kathy were among some of the Hollywood personalities who came for a day of sport and fun. First post was at two o'clock, and they were "off and running." It was Hasty Trip that took the second race...a 1-1/16th mile race for three-year-olds. She finished in I-44-and three-tenths seconds with jockey Dean Hall in the stirrups. Over the finish line and the winner’s purse, 26-hundred dollars. A six-day racing week for the next 42 days at Del Mar where everyone has fun, even though everyone cannot be a winner.
