Description
August 6, 1956 The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club was the scene of the 10th annual Jewel Ball, with a huge make-believe cake afloat in the swimming pool to mark the occasion.
A buffet dinner was served during the evening and dancing was held from 10 to 2 a.m. One of the highlights
was the modeling of a collection of jewels from Texas. Music for the dancing was supplied by two name bands from Los Angeles. Fashion observers noted that there was a trend toward the new floor-length formals. And, of course, many fiesta costumes. The cast of Pal Joey, from
the La Jolla Playhouse, stopped in to entertain the guests, at one of the Southland's top summer social events.
