The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning starting Monday at 10 a.m. and it's in place until 4 a.m. Wednesday. That prompted San Diego Gas & Electric to issue a warning to more than 117,000 customers in high-impact areas, from Alpine to Warner Springs, that their power could be shut off in an effort to prevent wildfires. SDG&E reported they notified customers over the weekend. All indications we are seeing is that we will see winds well over 50 mph even over 70 mph in our windiest locations across the back country,” said meteorologist Brian D’Agostino, VP of Wildfire and Climate Science at SDG&E. “In addition to those very strong winds, we have not seen any significant rainfall so far this fall so when we look at major events we’ve had in December, we go back to December 2017 and December 2020, looking back at those historical events, we are preparing for what could be another significant Santa Ana wind event here in San Diego,” D’Agostino continued.
