Description
In Spring Valley, the temperature was 93 degrees by 11:30 a.m. and expected to climb to triple digits Thursday afternoon.
The San Miguel Fire Department said it’s seen an uptick in heat-related calls. Battalion Chief Nick Nava said they’re also seeing an elevated wildfire risk.
“We’ve had a summer of hot, dry conditions and then we hit these heatwaves, we get high temperatures during the day, and nighttime recoveries during the evening don’t get down to the cool San Diego weather,” said Batt. Chief Nava.
He said during hot weather, they typically call out extra crews to fires, just so they can rotate firefighters more easily and give them shade and water breaks.
He urges San Diegans to limit outdoor activities because heat takes a toll on the body faster.
