As San Diego’s locally run, not-for-profit electricity provider, San Diego Community Power is on a mission to procure 100% clean and renewable energy by the year 2035 or sooner, and to do so in a way that is equitable, affordable and sustainable. “What we do is we buy wholesale, clean electricity from places like solar and wind farms, and then work with SDG&E to deliver that electricity to their poles and wires to your home. They send you a bill with both their charges and ours,” said Lebron. “We’re here to bring competition to the marketplace to drive energy prices down. So for the first time ever, San Diegans have a choice.” San Diego Community Power is flipping the switch on the energy marketplace, delivering cleaner and more affordable electricity to nearly a million customers in San Diego County. They reinvest revenues into San Diego neighborhoods and serve nearly one million customers in San Diego, Chula Vista, Encinitas, Imperial Beach, National City, La Mesa and the unincorporated regions of San Diego County like Julian and Fallbrook. By bringing competition to the marketplace, Community Power is helping to bring costs down. In fact, this July Community Power introduced its lower-cost product, Power Base, to complement Power On, the default service, and Power 100, which is the 100% clean, renewable energy product. Utility and electricity rates impact us all in San Diego. That is why San Diego Community Power is working to keep costs down for customers. As consumers, we can also empower ourselves by taking proactive steps to keep costs down. When you use energy matters. Try avoiding peak hour usage, which is the most expensive window of time. If you reduce energy consumption from 4-9pm, you can immediately save money. That means adjusting running your washer, dryer and dishwasher outside of those peak hours. Also, instead of cooking your dinner with the oven or stove, if you cook with your air fryer or microwave, you can save energy. Another easy step you can take is to reduce vampire energy.
