Description
Hillcrest could look a lot different twenty to thirty years from now, after the San Diego City Council unanimously approved a plan Tuesday that could add 17,000 new homes to the neighborhood, and more than double the population by 2050.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria signed the plan into law Wednesday afternoon at Rich's in Hillcrest.
The plan also includes adding an LGBTQ+ cultural district and an entertainment district, as well as protections for businesses that have been operating in Hillcrest more than 30 years.
The council also approved plans Tuesday for University City, which paves the way for adding 30,000 new housing units. Mayor Gloria will sign that plan into law at a later date.
