October 2, 1966
This was quite a day in the life of Mrs. Phoebe Collins—a life that began one hundred years ago. As Mrs. Collins passed the century mark, 32 relatives joined in the celebration. Mrs. Collins who lives at 3076 Juniper Street, came to San Diego from Texas in 1946. She’s received a number of birthday greetings from well-wishers including a telegram from President Lyndon Johnson.
This video was posted on Vintage San Diego on Facebook. A group member did some research and found this: She was born Phoebe Ellen Nations on October 2, 1866 in Arkansas. She married James Washington Collins in 1884 in
St. Augustine, Texas. Together they had 10 children together. She died at the age of 104 🤯 in San Diego, CA on July 13, 1971. She is buried at Cypress View Mausoleum and Crematorium in San Diego, CA.
