In 2011, San Diego Pride made history by being the first pride event in the country to have a specific solo contingent for recognizing the LGBT active duty, reservists and veterans who are serving and have served in all branches of the Department of Defense, including the U.S. Coast Guard and the California National Guard. The Pride Parade celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024! San Diego’s Pride Parade began with a 400-person march/rally June of 1974 in Balboa Park.
