Description
Firefighters stopped the forward rate of a brush fire that erupted near Del Mar Heights on Tuesday afternoon.
San Diego firefighters responded to the brush fire that sparked near Carmel Valley Road and Via Aprilia on Tuesday around 10:45 a.m. It was one acre when it started, according to Mónica Muñoz, spokesperson for SD Fire-Rescue. It grew to 19 acres as of 5 p.m. and forced widespread evacuations.
Fire officials told CBS 8 that the fire was 50% contained just before 10 p.m.
Two firefighters were hospitalized and treated for heat exhaustion, Muñoz said. Both firefighters were later released and are recovering at home, according to the San Diego Fire Department.
Muñoz said about 2,500 residents were asked to evacuate and 1,400 residents in the area were issued warnings. San Diego Police lifted the evacuation orders at around 7:20 p.m.
