Description
June 12, 1976
A king and queen of Ocean Beach were crowned today, marking the beginning of the Royal Celebration of “Ocean Beach International Festival ’76.” The king George Kenline and queen Ruth Heid were given grand titles today because they have been residents of Ocean Beach longer than anyone else. They arrived in OB back in 1912 and have called it home ever since. King George and Queen Ruth arrived at the celebration in their stately carriage, somewhat tarnished by age, but it didn’t dull the gloss on today’s activities. The festival is sponsored by the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Entertainment, bake sales and bicentennial frivolity was offered to raise money for the church’s school. Last year’s event netted 11,000 dollars. Tomorrow night there will be a barbecue and raffle worth 1,776 dollars.
