Description
Thirty-six years after joining the San Diego Police Department, Chief David Nisleit left headquarters today for the very last time to a special send-off.
Fellow officers, staff members, and community leaders gathered outside the department’s front doors to shake his hand, thank him for his service, and offer him well wishes in the future.
“Chief David Nisleit, Thank you for your service,” a dispatcher said over a police radio. “We wish you a happy retirement with your family.”
Nisleit served six years as chief and his tenure had some trying times, including the loss of officers killed on the job, the pandemic, which included a mask mandate, and riots downtown following the death of George Floyd.
