Members of a youth movement known as the so-called “hippie” generation came out in the hundreds that summer to stage a “love-in” at the historic Presidio Park in San Diego. The “love-in” became a regular Sunday ritual at city parks.
June 25, 1967
The latest in the weekend phenomena known as “love-ins” was held at the La Jolla Cove. Several weeks ago, a similar demonstration at the Cove resulted in a mammoth traffic jam and brought police on the run when some of the demonstrators desecrated the flag by stomping on it. No such incidents marred yesterday’s gathering.
A number of unusual costumes were on exhibit…as usual. And there was some singing and strumming of guitars. Police reported everything orderly—although they had been primed to expect possible trouble, none developed. About 15-hundred persons were there.
