Description
Timmy's Place, a downtown San Diego pizzeria, is helping teens and young adults overcome homelessness.
"I'm the first full time employee and this was my first job so this is like wow," said 23-year-old Jasmine.
The pizza shop is on the ground floor of an Urban Street Angels youth homeless shelter. Teens and young adults staying there get the chance to work at the pizza or printing shop making t-shirts and mugs. Lucky Duck Foundation CEO Joe Moser described the critical importance to tackle homelessness while people are young.
"When you look at the current homeless population about half were homeless as youth. If we can catch those kids young we can completely change the trajectory of their life," Moser said.
Jasmine says she's gained job skills and been able to earn money and become self sufficient.
