Description
Santee firefighters are working to improve response times and address critical infrastructure concerns.
A temporary sales tax is being proposed for the November ballot that aims to bolster resources and personnel. Firefighters say the department is severely underfunded and that a temporary sales tax could provide the necessary resources to help them keep up with the growing community.
“It’s time. People deserve it, they want it," said Santee Mayor John Minto.
Santee firefighters are working to gain community support to raise essential funds.
“We have a problem in Santee," said Fire Captain Patrick Henry. "We have an infrastructure need and we have a small staffing need."
The Santee Firefighter Association says it’s facing critical challenges that are severely affecting how firefighters are able to respond to emergencies.
Currently, the department’s response times are double the crucial four-minute National Fire Safety Response Standard.
