Description
The brand new Dianne Jacob Lakeside Equestrian Park is about to hold one of its first big events. But neighbors say it focuses more on horsepower than horses, and that has them concerned about the safety of their animals. It's called Monster Truck Wars and their own Facebook page describes it as "earth-shaking, ground-pounding, high-flying excitement".
Two shows are scheduled to take place at the equestrian park next month.
“It's just inappropriate,” said Joan Embrey, who is unquestionably one of the world's leading advocates when it comes to protecting animals. Her ranch, which houses several horses, is just around the corner from the equestrian park.
“Sound is something that can really get a horse's attention and frighten them,” she said, adding that their first instinct is usually to flee and that's a huge safety risk. “If they start running around, bouncing off fences, now it's muddy because of the rain - they could blow a tendon or injure themselves.”
