Description
The Port of San Diego has approved what will be one of the largest veterans parks in the country and it's set to be built on the Embarcadero.
The park will go next to the USS Midway Museum at the Navy Pier. The first step will be to knock down the headhouse building this spring.
Freedom Park will replace the headhouse building and parking lot on the pier.
"It's a great idea to do that and get rid of this eyesore," said San Diego resident, John.
It will be the biggest veterans park on the west coast and is meant to celebrate San Diego's long military history.
"Given that we have so many veterans here so it's perfect with all of our military and I can't think of anything better," Bonny, a San Diego resident.
The Bayfront park will span 10-acres and feature a promenade and lots of green space.
