Those still in search for a meaningful Valentine's Day gift can shop for a cause this year through Bright Futures Candles. These candles are not only great gifts, but also invest in the future of young moms, their children, and youth in need of a hand.
The candles are handmade by local pregnant or parenting young women and youth ages 18-24, all of whom were once at risk of homelessness, build a brighter future for themselves. This program is run by Home Start, a local nonprofit committed to helping San Diego’s most underserved and vulnerable since 1972. Their services are tailored to prevent child abuse and neglect and to strengthen families.
The candle artisans are Home Start residents and program participants. Bright Futures Candles is a social enterprise is a part of Home Start's housing programs which provide supportive housing and educational programs to women who are pregnant or have small children as well as at-risk youth including former foster children.
Bright Futures Candles offers Home Start clients the chance to gain hands-on work experience, additional income, and confidence in a work environment.
The candles are fully organic and made with a blend of soy and coconut wax. Each one is proudly hand-signed and has a personal touch to thank our customers for their generosity in every purchase they make.
All proceeds from the candle sales support Home Start’s life-changing programs such as their housing programs and Community Services for Families among others. We reinvest profits back into these programs that help at-risk families, children, and youth thrive and succeed.
