A retired San Diego Fire-Rescue Captain who served the San Diego County community for decades has died from injuries sustained during a November 2023 car crash. The family of retired San Diego Fire-Rescue Captain Edward Cardenas confirmed that he died from his injuries on Wednesday. In January, CBS 8 spoke to Cardenas' daughter who was hoping to raise money to support her father's medical recovery. Cardenas was still recovering at UC San Diego's Regional Burn Center in January. Cardenas was injured in November 2023 after he suffered a heart attack and crashed into his home in Tierrsasanta.
