Winter is a busy time of year when parents face the challenge of keeping kids active. Parents are often looking for creative ways to encourage kids to be active and keep their kids from spending countless hours on devices and screens.
Dancing with the Stars Pro Maks Chmerkovskiy is an international ballroom dance champion and the father of two young kids. He joins our Laura Cavanaugh to share his winning routine for family fitness and fun this season.
Maks and his wife DWTS Pro Peta Murgatroyd are the parents to two young sons. With their profession and training, they are naturally active and move for a living. But at home, they also make a point to make movement an essential part of each day with their kids.
“At home, contrary to public opinion, we don’t dance Paso Doble around the house, but we do break into movement,” said Chmerkovskiy. “I encourage there to be a soundtrack, whether it’s Alexa or just play something on your phone. If you don’t know what to play to break your family into any kind of sporadic movement, I recommend disco. Our son loves it.”
From exploring and getting out in nature to impromptu dance-offs and game nights at home, learn some of the couple’s simple steps to avoid the winter blues.
When the weather doesn’t cooperate, kids don’t always understand it. One of the family’s favorite destinations is Great Wolf Lodge, one of the nation’s largest indoor waterpark resorts. Great Wolf is a weather-proof family vacation.
From water slides, wave pools and lazy rivers to ropes courses, rock climbing and miniature golf, it is family fun for the whole pack.
“I love this place for building the memories. Parents also find themselves relaxed that this place is safe,” said Chmerkovskiy.
Southern California’s nearest Great Wolf Lodge is located just minutes from downtown Anaheim in Garden Grove. The 105,000 square-foot indoor water park is kept at a warm 84 degrees year-round with exciting attractions, delicious dining options and a world of fun. Your family can experience more than 50 attractions all under one roof. Parents will watch their pups howl with glee as they swim, splash, play and ride down one of Great Wolf’s many water slides. Gear up for a vacation filled with waves of fun and adventure.
