Description
San Diego Lifeguards Thursday evening are working to free a man who became trapped on the bluffs after trying to create a shelter in a tunnel at Sunset Cliffs.
The man was reported to be stuck on the cliffs near Cable Street at 3:43 p.m., fire officials say. Someone nearby heard the man calling for help after he slid down 12 to 15 feet on the hillside and became wedged inside a tunnel underneath a rock. San Diego's and Chula Vista's fire departments are working alongside San Diego Lifeguards, city geologists and soil specialists to help with the extraction ahead of Thursday night's expected storm.
The man told fire officials he has been screaming for help for days, but it is unclear at this time how long he has been stuck in the tunnel.
San Diego Fire's Battalion Chief Craig Newell said the crew is prepared to work through the night.
