Description
The La Mesa City Council is rejected a proposal for digital billboards along Interstate 8 in La Mesa at Tuesday's meeting.
A group against the billboards is going to pay close attention even after this vote, as community members have been vocally against them. They had collected roughly 2,000 signatures online and in person against the proposal, they said.
"We're going to be interested in the reasons why [they're] withdrawing their support and any lesson learned and to be reassured that this subject won't be brought up again," a woman from Keep La Mesa Beautiful said ahead of the vote.
Council says the proposal will not be revisited again.
Vice Mayor of La Mesa Laura Lothian said they will never entertain the idea again.
"We were just going to shelf it indefinitely," she said. "But no, no this needs to have a stake through its heart."
This has been an idea passed back and forth by the La Mesa City Council all year. But councilmembers said the public outcry swayed their decision.
