Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the 5-acre Escala Fire burning on Battle Mountain in Rancho Bernardo alongside northbound Interstate 15 Monday afternoon. The flames broke out near Escala & Chretien Ct. around 2:45 p.m. and were burning at a slow rate of spread, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The two right lanes of Northbound I-15 were closed by the California Highway Patrol. Escala Road near Pomerado Road was also closed while fire crews worked on the blaze.
