Description
This month is National Suicide Prevention Month, but mental health is a topic here at CBS 8 all year long, because You Matter.
This story focuses on teen mental health. The number of teens who have been diagnosed with a mental illness is skyrocketing. CBS 8’s Heather Myers spoke with an expert at Rady Children's Hospital and went behind the scenes into one of the nation's only emergency departments for children in a mental health crisis - all to give parents an idea of the resources available in case your child needs immediate help.
Another option is a behavioral health urgent care center and it's in the mid-city area at 4305 University Avenue. If your child needs immediate help but you’re unsure if the crisis has escalated to the point of going to the emergency room, this is another option for you. There are walk-in hours from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and your child can be screened by a social worker.
If you or someone you know needs help, call 988 to be connected to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
