Description
ProduceGood is a non-profit founded in 2014 by Nita Kurmins Gilson, Alexandra White and Jerilyn White, three local women looking to reduce hunger and food waste in San Diego County. With 40% of all food wasted, and 1 in 4 people struggling with food insecurity, ProduceGood's mission is to address these twin problems with one solution. To accomplish this work, we engage over 4,000 local volunteers to harvest excess produce in orchards, on farms, farmers markets and grocers, to benefit over 90 local feeding partners who serve food-insecure individuals in our county, recovering over 18,000 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables a week to individuals and families (veterans, seniors and children) in San Diego County. Since 2010, we have diverted almost 800 tons of perfectly edible produce from the landfill.
