Description
September 19, 1958
Among those wild-eyed freshmen signing up for classes today at San Diego State was the beautiful green-eyed Raquel Tejada. This year’s Maid of California showed no inclination to major in that subject. She prefers Speech Arts instead. And no doubt, the Speech Arts class prefers her too. As to be expected the men of San Diego State lost no time in greeting their favorite freshman. A most welcome addition to the campus sights—Raquel Tejada.
That’s the original script about future superstar Raquel Welch. She must have been a big deal already in San Diego since our station covered her registering at SDSC. Two years later she joined KFMB-TV as the weather reporter for the new morning program Sun Up San Diego. Sun Up host Bob Mills must have seen her star power hiring her for her first on-air job. She was here for under a year in 1960.
The shot sheet refers to her as Rocky.
