A 20-year-old man charged with second-degree murder in a double fatal DUI crash appeared in court Tuesday morning for his preliminary hearing. Christopher Schmittel is accused of driving drunk and killing two of his friends in a crash at Torrey Pines State Beach exactly one year ago on April 25, 2022. Prosecutors said they will call six witnesses to the stand to testify. The second witness called was Aaron McCray. He is now 19-years-old. He testified he was in the backseat the night of the crash and had to be rescued by firefighters.
