For many years, beloved News 8 reporter Larry Himmel did a series on different neighborhoods throughout San Diego County showcasing the charm and unique aspects of each. Larry Himmel’s Neighborhood covered areas big and small from the coast to East County and everywhere in between. We start our special with a group of communities surrounding Balboa Park in the heart of San Diego—Bankers Hill, Hillcrest, Park Boulevard and Burlingame. In Mission Hills Larry found a community rich in history, a nursery established by Kate Sessions and some really good food. From what some call the paradise of Bird Rock to the fresh yet familiar feel of Encinitas, to Carlsbad with its village at the heart of the city—Larry touched them all.
