Description
Dr. Abisola Olulade talked about why we should care about climate change and the health effects that are being seen because of it.
California’s climate crisis is rapidly getting worse with record high temperatures massive wildfires and unprecedented drought. This is increasingly taking a toll on the health and wellbeing of its residents according to findings in a report published by California’s Environmental Protection Agency. This has had impacts of human health such as increased heat related illnesses and deaths, lung damage and irritation from wildfire smoke, increase in vector borne diseases and increase in Valley fever. Some of these health issues may be irreversible.
The authors of the report state that “The stark reality of climate change in California is clear: record-high temperatures, an unrelenting drought, and unprecedented wildfires. The evidence continues to mount of the impacts of climate change on the health, safety, and well-being of the state’s residents”
