Legendary Oceanside coach, teacher and mentor Herbert C. Meyer has died at 87, his family announced Tuesday. Meyer died on April 8 while vacationing with his family in Spokane, Meyer's family confirmed. Meyer retired in 2003 after more than 45 years of teaching, coaching and becoming widely known as one of the most respected interscholastic coaches in history. Meyer retired with more wins than any coach in the history of California high school football.
